In
past years, we have been telling you all about the Perryopolis
event. It is probably the sleeper event on our schedule. We
have been telling you about it a lot and some of you are starting
to give it a look. Let me give you some background on this great
event.
A few years back some of the members of the 105th PVI and I
got together with the good folks of the Perryopolis Historical
Society about putting on Civil War events there. The site is
over 110 wooded and now partially cleared. The folks there gave
us Carte Blanche to make the site whatever we desired. Remember
this site is designed by reenactors it is custom made just for
us. We decided that we wanted to put on some new and exciting
events featuring earthworks and extreme pyrotechnics simulating
late war trench warfare. The result is one of the most exciting
events put on in Civil War reenacting today. This best kept
secret is becoming known by more reenactors each year. The folks
of Perryopolis really know how to treat reenactors making the
event even better.
Some of
the improvements made there in the recent past are as follows:
We moved everything to a pristine wooded area to block out
modern intrusions. There are log cabins for both the Federal
and Confederate Commanders. There are period style barracks
being built in both camps to house troops. They are 28x40,
two floors, and will be heated. There are pristine wooded
infantry camps in place and mounted cavalry camps are under
construction. We have put in a 125-yard earthworks that will
be wired with some of the most realistic pyrotechnics you
will ever experience. There are convenient wooded trails /
roads in place to provide some interesting flanking moves.
The site is practically intrusion free. The battlefield is
large and features great terrain.
This past
season, a strong number of PACS units attended along with
their artillery (by the way this is a great event for guns).
They pledge they will be back in force this season.
It is
predicted that this event will be one of the best in this
region for many years to come. The event is located 12 miles
off the Pa Turnpike exit 75 New Stanton. Keep in mind this
event is specially designed and hosted by Birney's Division
and we ask for your full support. Please give it a strong
look when setting your schedules next year. We hope to see
you all there in 2007.
